I brought it to Boston with me. Not sure how often I'm going to get to ride it though. So that could be disappointing.

Thanks man.
I'm glad you're still loving the bike. If it had been just a bit bigger I probably couldn't have parted with it now matter how much I needed a new bike. In fact, after spending a lot of time (and money) on my mountain bike and road bike...I went back to the basics. I spend 90% of my time riding a single speed that was built from a spare parts and a rewelded frame. Just can't beat the simple joy of a single speed.

What pisses me most of is that after the race Contador stated that he hasn't noticed Andy's technical problems, ... what a hypocrite ...

But the race is not ever yet ...

Simple but effective; within the pistolero victory salute they've managed to capture his grand tour successes. As the only pro currently riding that has won the Giro, Tour and Vuelta, he's proof positive that great riders are not 'one race' specialists - need I say more?!

Hi Pedal-Pusher! Thanks for your support! Just to clarify - if you do make a pledge towards our project you will be getting a 'reward' in return...

So if you pledge $50 you are essentially pre-ordering a copy of the book. If you pledge $250 you will get a copy of the book and your name will appear on a special page in the book. And so on...

You can pledge as little a $1.

If we do not meet our funding target the project will sadly be cancelled…

Thanks!

Stan.

Hi

What a great find. Having recently completed a road tour and having to go back and drive some of the same route, I can really relate to this sentiment.

Thanks Jonny. Definitely words to be encouraged by. I also enjoyed your post about the race. Loved the talk with the legs. That is funny stuff. http://borntokilo.blogspot.com/2010/05/race-report-10th-annual-bunny-hop.html

Now hurry up and get out of Cat 5 so there is one less person I know I can't catch!

Dude - you showed up on the hottst day of racing heat wise. Everybody gets shelled in their first crit unless they are a freak of nature and can put the hammer down. So lets review 1. you kicked ass by showing up 2. If you finished that's huge 3. At HP start grabbinga wheel and sitting on it then take pulls up front. build up that intensity. Stick with it and you'll be dragging the pack around in no time.

Is this Frame still alive?
the reason i ask is because i have a road frame with a crack in the weld on the down and head tube area and have been told to ditch the b*tch, but obviously i still want to ride her.

any response would be appreciated!

I did exactly the same: got the SL01 (small) for $699 on Competitive Cyclist. Just wrapping up my build today (mostly Campagnolo, a mix of Record and Chorus) and hope to get out on it tomorrow! Be interested to hear about your riding impressions.

I predict it will be just fine. I've seen a few aluminum BMX frames w/ split head tubes (probably from less than optimal head set/head tube sizing) get welded and continue on racing and jumping w/out issue. :)

I made the leap in December to an SLC01, all red after riding an all black Fondreist for the last 6 years. A huge change but can't be happier. Have always loved the BMC styling/design and to finally have one and ride one, couldn't be happier! Way to go, welcome to the BMC club!

I'll make sure to make you less comfortable next time. I certainly wasn't, as I have much work to do to just get back to a level of merely sucking. You rode strongly, but you can always do better (at least that's what one thinks after the fact...). See you next time perhaps.

Thanks for the mention. For the record, I'm in Portland, Oregon. I was born in New Jersey (which is mentioned in my bio), but I moved away when I was very young. I grew up and started mountain biking in Connecticut and also lived in Salt Lake for a while before moving here about 4 years ago.

Glad you love the bike. I've been trying to replace it ever since I sold it.

As for Alaska, just found out that my shoot was cancelled 3 days before heading off. So, no fat tire bikes for me.

Evening Christian. I bought your Tommaso fixed bike but also have always liked the look of the arctic style fat tire bikes. On your trip to AK hopefully you will have a chance to ride one. If so please post pics :)

By the way I LOVE the Tommaso. Great bike just changed tires along with wheel true and am loving it!

mec.ca: their new bikes are fantastic. I bought the touring bike and it has huge clearance, not to mention disc brakes. Aluminum, so it's good for winter.

I think there is an easier method for the 4x4. I simply screwed two 2x4's together, drilled a hold down the center in between them. Then simply unscrewed them. Leaves you with 2 identical halves with half circle grooves in them.

As for the gorilla glue, I have no clue. My experience with that stuff has been general positive. I'll be real curious to hear how it works. If you're willing to spend the time, I bet you could manually drill in some screw holes into the clamp. Just need to find the right bit..and be willing to take your time drilling it.

I couldn't find the same pony clamp with places for screws. I went ahead and bought one with out the holes for screws along with some gorilla glue, does anyone know if this should work before I start assembling everything? Also for the bottom 4x4 one inch, I couldn't quite find, will something less thick work, or a 4x3?

I saw another one that used a pipe clamp to hold the bike, seems that would be a perfect addition to your plan here. Nice work! I love the ceiling attachment idea.

At the moment, I'm just running a simple carriage bolt through it. I just thread the nut on the backside and ratchet it down. Ideally, I'd put a toolbox style latch on there. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Colin: If he ran air into the pipe he could put a fitting on the T to plug in the air hose. But as I see it personally, the stand comes straight down out of the ceiling so the compressor would be beside him anyway... no real point J Audet.

I can't wait to see your wheel truing stand. Probably more duct-taped 2x4 with nails sticking out.

Why would you run air through the the T? For ease of access to a compressor?

07:32 PM

Just eyeballing this, it looks like if you inverted it (pipe coming up) and used a pipe floor flange and some big bolts to a sheet of plywood to make a sturdy base, you'd have it made portable for not a lot more $$.

You are right. It's not 3/4. Nor is it 1.5" like it's listed in my sketch. It's actually 1"

3/4" would certainly do the trick.

The pipe looks like 3/4" id as opposed to 1 1/2" listed. 1 1/2" would be overkill (and more expensive) for this project. Great Idea though!

I hadn't thought of that. I built it with the T, so that someday I could add another side to it and (or have a buddy) work on 2 bikes at once.

Nice stand! Have you thought about plugging the end on black pipe and runing air through it with a coupler on the back of the "T".
