A family sized serving of humble pie for me.
Last night I made the oh-so-frustrating journey out to Haines Point ( I @#$#%# hate driving in this city) to hook up with Adam Austin (who held is own quite easily) for a little pre-criterium training. The scenery was beautiful, my performance was not.
The group ride is put on by NCVC and is described as "an intense, race-simulation ride. Not for the faint of heart or those uncomfortable riding in close quarters. The group does multiple laps around the park. The southbound side is generally for recovery, but once around the Point on the northbound side, things get fast and furious. Great practice for race finishes".
Yeah, well let me tell you, that was putting it lightly. The group was about 30 riders strong with a pace that was blistering. Almost like it was my job, I continued to get dropped on one blazingly hot corner and would have to slay the winds on my own to get back to the group. At times it was pretty demoralizing. I, mean, I can recall looking down at my computer and seeing that I was turning 111 rpm's, doing 27mph, and losing ground quickly. If it wasn't for the cars and the occasional stop sign I would have never hung in there. But, like they say...whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. So, next thursday I expect to be out there again....and I expect to give a better showing.
As for my race this weekend. My expectations just went from low too non-existent. @yougotdropped. Despite what your blog says...get your cameras loaded with film. I'll be the guy in the back, wearing the best looking kit in town.
Pat ” I Like to Pummel Pedalers’ Pogan found not guilty of assault.
This one has been making the rounds of late on the blogs. I posted the video of this clear case of assault here. Yesterday, Pogan was acquitted of assault and found guilty of falsifying police reports by a jury. You can read much more about the ruling on cyclelicious
Ernest Hemingway got it
Came across this cool piece of art created by Wil Freeborn. I think someone needs to suggest to him that he turn this into a print and start selling it.

Tour of the Gila (Tour de Gila…for you wanna be Euros)
Today marks the start of the 24th Annual Tour of the Gila held in New Mexico. There aren't a ton of great stage races here in the US, so when they do come around, the stars come out. Amongst the list of attendees are Levi Leipheimer, Dave Zabriskie, Tom Danielson, Phil Zajicek and Lance Armstrong. I have to say though, the rider I'm most curious to see perform in this event is super spy Floyd Landis who races for the Bahati Foundation Pro Cycling Team.
The race course breaks down like this. Day 1 - 94.1 miles road race, Day 2 - 80 miles road race, Day 3 - 16.15 mile Time Trial, Day 4 - 43.2 mil Criterium (40 laps), Day 5 - 105.7 mile road race.
Honey Stinger has a new partner
Today the news came out that Lance Armstrong will be joining the ownership group of Honey Stingers. No doubt we'll soon be seeing guys on the sunday rides packing this in their jerseys. But don't get too excited guys. I've probably been eating honey every day since I was a kid and it hasn't turned me into a world champion!
New kits for Team Radio Shack
Someone has answered my prayers! Just in time for the kick off of the Tour of the Gila, Radio Shack has unveiled a special retro kit. Now I'll admit that the old Radio Shack logo uses an atrocious font, but all in all these kits are far more interesting than the regular team issues. Now if they would only de-logo-fy their bikes.
