Bicycle Exhibit in Philadelphia
Seems like the melding of bike and art has become all the rage these days. Proof in point is the interesting exhibit happening at Philadelphia's Moore College of Art & Design. It's about time bicycles got their long overdue acclaim. The exhibit runs until October 13th.

Hmmm....probably not road worthy
Hold on..you missed a spot. That headset is far to bare!
YIKES!
Would you look at this thing? They are calling this worthless wonder the YikeBike. I don't know which I hate more, this, or that heinous Segway. Both are Champions of Uselessness if you ask me. But, if you're lazy and love to be laughed at and hopefully have coffee and snowballs thrown at you...then this gem could be yours for the low low price of $5600.

Limited edition 26″ PK RIPPER
Came across this machine this morning. In theory, this concept is sensational. Yet, I have to say I'm disappointed. As a kid, the PK RIPPERS were legendary. They were so far out of my price range it wasn't even funny. Not only was the frame design unique, but so were the color palettes. Maybe that's why I don't like this one. The colors are just off.
Available at THE HUNDREDS for $650

Bring back the old school colors and maybe we'll talk
A beautiful Traitor ready for some Streetfighting
The internet is a magical thing. You start off hoping to learn about one thing, yet wind up discovering something new and way better than what you had been looking for in the first place. Today, that find for me was TRAITOR CYCLES and their prototype they are calling the STREETFIGHTER. Like the Giant FMX this bike has its roots equally planted in bmx and fixed gear. We're giong to have to wait a bit for this one though as production isn't slated to being until March 2010. While you're on the site, take the time to check out some of their other bikes, including a special edition Pabst Blue Ribbon Fixed Gear.
The Streetfighter is our aggresive urban fixed gear/singlespeed. Based on the 650B wheel size, we have nick named it our 650BMX bike. Not designed to be a pure freestyle bike, it is simply a bomber bike that you can thrash on, pull tricks and commute all over town. We threw on a front disc brake with cable routing through the steer tube for those that want a brake and still want to bar spin.
The Streetfighter features larger diameter butted 4130 chromoly tubes that add a ton of strength and stiffness. Our custom 6mm thick laser cut dropouts are beefy and grippy to hold onto axle nuts. The frame is finished off with a fully integrated headset similar to BMX bikes and our custom fork that is super burly.
For production we are looking at offering two styles of Streetfighter frames. One with a dual front and rear disc meant to run a freewheel and one without any brake mounts front and rear for fixed gear riders.

When art and bicycles collide.
What happens when you get an artist to paint a series of killer frames? If you're lucky, you get some killer looking bikes. For the guys over at OPEN BICYCLE in Somerville (a sidestep over from my old stomping grounds of Charlestown, MA) they have struck gold with their marriage of some TRAITOR frames and artist Matt. W. Moore. The series is called MOMENTUM...and the results are a thing of beauty. If you happen to be in the market for a 56cm frame. A few of these bad boys are still available. If you're in the Somerville area you should seriously consider stopping by the shop and viewing the exhibit they have set up.

Let the Helmet Wars Begin
Bicycle helmets, albeit useful, sure do make us all look like world class juckets. Thankfully, two companies are hearing our pleas. So, if you're in the market for a helmet that won't make you look like a bobble-head consider these.
The first is a commissioned project by FUSEPROJECT for the city of New York.

Golf anyone?

Please throw something at me. I'm army tough.
The second set of helmets come from the guys at BERN.

SWEET! Looks like the old San Diego Padres uniforms!

1 part Jockey, 1 part Rasta

Love the Elmer Fudd lining! Makes me long for the cold.
For me...this is a slam dunk victory for Bern. No way, no how, are you going to get me to wrap a diaper on my helmet or parade around with that ridiculous army green rat tail looking thing.
