Shame free cycling apparel!
This is an oldie but a goodie. These guys have been around for a while, but I just never got around to writing about them. Until now.
First, however, I must digress. There's nothing more comical on the road to me, than some overweight guy bulging at the seams...all decked out in his wanna-be-Lance outfit blazing down the road at sinister 12mph clip. It's high comedy to me. Seriously, if you're not a competitive cyclist, do you really need to latest and greatest in cycling performance wear? Do us all a favor and cover up. Or at least, spare us the tight shorts. Perhaps mountain bike shorts?
Now, back to my origninal purpose of this post. You'll never guess what happens when you have designers with talent create cycling apparel. YOU GET KILLER STUFF. Someone should have told Garneu, Pearl Izumi, and that brand with the scorpion to try this.
The guys over at Twin Six are sinister. They are killing it with their designs. Also, if you poke around the site a bit, you may even discover some new bands. The Black Angels rock. Thanks Ryan.

ALERT! Please don't purchase this if you ride in the DC area. It's mine!

They also make some sweet casual gear.
The Camper Bike vs. My Feet.
Got a really funny response today from Kevin Cyr, the guy responsible for the sweet camper bike. I had inquired about possibly building one of those bikes myself and pedaling it across country.
So, if my math is correct....and it probably won't be. The average person walks at 3mph. If I subtract 8 hours for sleeping and eating. That leaves me with 16hours per day to walk. (3mph x 16hrs = 48 miles/day) Now...divide that by the approx. 3000miles to go across the country. Essientialy, it would take 62.5 days to get there. Funny thing is, I had calculated 40 miles per day on the bike if I was lucky. Damn...Kevin may be right.

1 BMX + 1 FIXED GEAR = 1 GIANT BOWERY FMX
Just found out about this little rig. Undoubtedbly a bit too white for my liking, but it sure is pretty to look at. I'll be sure to take one of these out for a spin, when they start hitting the stores.
Specs don't say that those are Profile Cranks...but that sure looks like a Profile Imperial chainwheel.
Giant's Bowery FMX might have been born in the velodrome but it was definitely raised in the BMX world. This fun city steed boasts an aluminum frame and chromoly fork for a light, responsive ride that can take on whatever the urban landscapes has in store for you. This sweet rig is ready for whatever tricks you can throw down, too, with stiff 3-piece chromoly cranks, a BMX-style saddle and a stubby stem with riser bars. And, the fast-rolling 700c wheels with Michelin tires can handle drops, jumps and fast bike-lane ripping. There's even a thick wrap around the top tube to protect you as well as this sweet frame while it's locked up.

Seat Post Aluminum

The never-ending saga of the missing seat post.
I've been sitting on this sweet Ellsworth Flight road bike frame for a while now. I've got parts from my old Casati all ready to be swapped out. Problem is, my old seatpost doesn't fit. Now, you'd think that would be an easy fix, right? I sure thought it would be. On a lark, I wrote to Ellsworth customer service looking for specs. Much to my amazement, not only did someone write back quickly....but that someone was Anthony Ellsworth himself. "Flight. Should take a 27.2mm post, though some took 27.4mm.Front derailleur is bottom pull, 31.8mm clamp. BB is 68mm.Great bike. GREAT riding bike. Aluminum feel out of favor due to all the carbon stuff… but that is a fantastic riding frame, your lucky to own it. Enjoy. AE". Now, I gotta tell you, at this point I am feeling pretty special. Ellsworth frames are legendary...and I just got a email from the dude responsible for creating them. So, I rushed right over to JensonUSA to make a purchase. 27.2mm...just like the man said.
The package arrives. Doesn't fit.
Lucky for me, there is a bike shop less than 50 yards from my house. I bring the frame over to the shop. Everyone in the place wants to hold it. The thing weighs in at 2.3lbs for a 58cm frame. Crazy light!. I have them take the measurments (not once, but twice) for the seatpost with some cone shaped device they stick into the frame. 27.0mm. Once again, I rush right over to JensonUSA.com and purchase a nice Thomson Elite seatpost.
The package arrives. Doesn't fit.
That's two seatposts on their way back to Jenson as we speak. Sorry guys. But,...rest assured, I'l be buying another one real soon. This time, I'm going with 26.8mm...just like this old dilapidated printout of the specs says. (thank you Matt)

Mine has white stickers

And you thought his Mad Men title sequence was good
Found this a while back but never got around to posting it. Jason Goodman who was one of the designers on the Mad Men title sequence had a little book project titled A Girl's Bike.

Second place is the first loser. But I’ll take it!
Made the 2 hr drive today to race with my old roommates Ian and Adam at SOMDBMX. After 3 days of rain, the clouds parted, and made way for the blazing sun. We all signed up for a 1 day ABL pass. $10 dollars got us a paper plates with magic markered numbers and the chance for a trophy. Just like my old roommate Ian said, I had first place all wrapped until they brought in a ringer. In the end, I took home 2nd place.

Myself (2nd place), Ian Stoddard, Adam Costello (3rd place)
The original BMX dance
There has been a ton of love for a recent video of 2 girls in germany dancing with their bikes. Truly incredible stuff. If you haven't already seen this, you really need to.
Seeing this however, brought me back to my glory days and my love for RAD. Sure the girls are likely better, but where is the showmanship, the lights, the fantastic outfits and the brooding former olympian?
And when you're done viewing...run on over to Palmer Cash and support one of cinemas' greatest moments with this.
A bike you can live in.
Check out this awesome creation by Kevin Cyr. Seriously, if I had one of these, I'd ride across the country. No rent, no gas, no worries.

Damn...this guy can paint as well. Now I'm officially envious.
