April 26th (The National Mall)
Rode to the National Mall area today with Sarah and Josh. Super leisurely ride...but it was blazing hot out so it did take its toll. Hard to even qualify it as riding, but I averaged 9.4 mph for 158minutes of riding.
April 25 A new NBL rider is born #532
Went to the Freedom Nationals today....came home with a NBL registration and official plate number. I also got Adam to join as well. So...no more excuses. It's time to enter my first race and see what sort of bmx'er I really am. As for the race itself, it was a great event. Tons of people tons of action. If you can believe it, there were 50+ yr old riders in the event.
April 21 (45min spin)
Thankfully..after 2 weeks of getting my ass kicked by Sharkweek and having no life what so ever...I finally got back on the bike. The class was great. Felt good to turn the pedals again. I also found that channeling all of my work frustrations into energy provided an endless supply. I actually lifted some weights after the class because I was still so worked up.
April 9 (45 minute spin)
Didn't make it to my usual class this week, so I wound up with a different instructor. Lame-city. Now I know why most people condemn spin classes.
April 6 (5miles/20:00)
Lame lame lame ride on the stationary bike. Just wasn't feeling it. Tomorrow is spin class though...so hopefully I'll be feeling strong again.
April 5 (35 miles)
I'm beginning to notice an interesting trend with myself as a rider. I start very poor but grow stronger as the ride continues. It seems like I don't hit my stride until about 35 minutes into the ride. It's really strange. I tore up the hills today. Absolutely crushed them. I never even dropped into the smaller sprocket and found myself passing every rider in the group. I'm still not fast enough for the 'A' group, but I'm turning out to be one of the stronger riders in the 'C' group. No such thing as a 'B' group with these guys.
Hitting the stairs
A few days ago I found out that a buddy of mine was walking the stairs every afternoon during work. So, taking his lead, I decided to do the same. I walk from floor 2 to floor 10 each afternoon. It's about 170 steps each way. On day 1 I started with 2 climbs...but I'm already up to 3 climbs. It's a quick 9-10 minute workout that can only help to strengthen my legs.
FREEDOM BMX NATIONALS COMING TO VA!
I just discovered yesterday that the Freedom Nationals are coming to town on April 25-26. Consider me there. Now...the real question...is whether or not I feel ready to compete. Event information can be found at the NOVA BMX site.
