March 31 (1hr spin class)

I don't know what else to say other than I love these classes.  I dusted off my old Hutch BMX racing jersey...long sleeve and all...and just worked my ass off in that class.  I love watching the sweat pour off of me.

March 29 (9 miles / 45:00)

After much delay...Adam finally got some shoes for his bike. So, it was late and the run was just starting to come down when I finally got him out there for a ride.  Needless to say the ride was short and slow.  I just wanted to get him out there turning the pedals today.  Hopefully now I'll have a riding partner...but I'm not banking on it. Aside from that, it rained all weekend long so I never got out there on my group ride.

On a different note. The BMX bug is starting to afflict me again. I'm itching to get back out there on them.

March 24 (1hr spin class)

I'm really starting to feel stronger on the bike.  When the instructor says add a quarter turn I had a full one.  I must look like a moron to everyone else in the class.  I do nothing but stare at my reflection in the mirror and focus on my stance on the bike and am constantly monitoring my body movement.  Oh...and inside my head I'm either replaying some of my favorite cycling movies or imagining myself in a race trying to pull away from the pack.   On a side note. I'm now 18lbs lighter than when I started this site.  6 weeks and 18lbs....not bad at all. Not bad at all.

March 22 (31.10miles / 1:52:55)

Despite all of my self doubt and second guessing I decided to join the group ride today.  Boy am I glad I did. I'm not sure if it was the 3 week layoff or the 17lbs I've lost since I've started riding again...but for the first time this year, I felt like a rider again.  I wasn't fast enough to stay with the A group...but I was too fast for the B group.  I found myself sort of drifting in between the two for most of the ride. The best part was that I crushed the hills today. Just all in all a real morale boosting day.

BLOOD SWEAT AND GEARS RD2

So I signed up for the annual Blood Sweat and Gears road race a couple of days ago. It's a race that takes place up in the smokey mountains of NC and TN. It's a soul crushing course. I did this race back when I turned 30 and it nearly broke me. I finished dead last out of all the people who qualified to race the full 100 miles. I came in around 9:14:00. It's a putrid time and one that I fully intend to shatter this year. As a tune up, I'm planning to ride in a MD 63 mile event in April.

March 17 (1hr spin class)

Pushed myself so hard that I was seeing spots when I walked out of there tonight. I'm really trying to crank up the tension whenever possible because hills have turned out to be my greatest nemesis.

March 16 (9miles / 30:00)

First day back on the bike since my vacation.  Didn't really want to be on it...but I forced myself to at least do 30 minutes

• stationary bike

• random hills

• level 10

March 4 (17.75 miles / 60:00

• stationary bike
• level 12
• alpine pass

Another lame day at the gym. I desperately want to get out there and ride on the street during the week...but it's just too dark, and too cold. Clocks get turned back this weekend so hopefully that'll help. On a side note. Heading to Cali this week from Saturday to Saturday. That means I'll miss the group ride this sunday and it's predicted to be close to 70! Sucks to think about it, but today was quite probably my last ride for the next week and a half.

Sadly, I wasn't able to hit the road this weekend on account of the snow. Good news though, Adam got himself a roadbike...so in theory I have someone to ride with. I say in theory...because I know he's not going to want to log the same kind of miles I will.
