Spoke Fiend

February 10

45 min spin class. Kicked my ass like I had hoped. Spoke to the instructor after the class and learned about some local group rides. I'm hoping to join one on Sunday.

Back and legs were pretty sore from the previous days ride, so I took it easy today and logged in some moderate miles on the stationary bike.

Road to Alexandria with Sarah and Adam today. The weather was great and the trail was packed. This was a super leisurely ride and my numbers are awful because of it. Actually took about a 2 hour break in the middle of the ride to walk around the antique shops and gorge myself on fried seafood.  All in all, I think I consumed more calories than I burned!  No way to get back into shape. But, it was great getting to ride with others.

ALL YOU CAN EAT 'HUMBLE PIE' BUFFET!

Today I had a gluttonous serving of humble pie. I knew I was in trouble the moment a couple of blue haired geezers wizzed by me like I was on a big wheel. I experienced more of the same throughout the ride. The highlight however came while I was doing about 35mph down a steep winding hill. I was faced with the lovely choice of woods, car, or pothole. I opted for the latter and of course is popped my rear tire. Thankfully I had a spare and what I needed to get the wheels rolling again.  The break actually was a blessing for me as I refound my form and averaged about 17-18mph for the remaining 8 miles.  Rides like these are good for me though...let me know how much work lies ahead for me.  I'll be ready for those blue hairs next time!
